Lots of ceramic wares are finished with smooth shiny glazes whilst others will leave the bisque body as a finish. This is especially common with porcelain due to the delicate bone white colour and smooth surface. Now I like a smooth shiny pot as much as the next person, but sometimes they can be just, well- boring. So to Improve, or at least make them more interesting to look at, We could change up the texture or surface of the bisque.

Above are just a few examples of textures that can be created with clay, using lots of different tools or just using the clay itself in an unusual manner. Personally I prefer meticulous mark making, I find it quite therapeutic, despite the wrist strain when doing it on a larger scale.
Texture is ceramics is very important and can really change the appearance and feel of a piece, for example a rough texture can give the piece a more natural feeling whilst a smooth surface with give a piece a more modern and functional feel, both are viable effects in ceramics and both are beautiful in their own way.
